RocketCart’s **Notify me when available** button only shows on a product page when the selected variant is sold out. It also needs the **Back in stock button** app embed turned on in your live theme. If either is missing, shoppers don’t see it.

## What does it look like?

A sold-out product page shows Shopify’s usual “Sold out” state, but no **Notify me when available** button below it. On RocketCart’s **Back in stock** page, the button in the header may say **Widget inactive**.

## Likely causes, most common first

### 1. The app embed is off

The button is a Shopify app embed. It does nothing until you turn it on in your theme.

**Fix:**

1. In RocketCart, open **Back in stock** and click **Widget inactive** in the page header. The theme editor opens on the **App embeds** list. (Or go to **Online Store > Themes**, click **Customize** on your live theme and open **App embeds** in the left sidebar.)
2. Turn on **Back in stock button**.
3. Click **Save**.

Back on the RocketCart page, the header button now says **Widget active**.

### 2. The selected variant isn’t sold out

The button only appears when the variant the shopper has selected is sold out. On a product with sizes, it shows for a sold-out size and hides again when the shopper picks one that is in stock.

**Fix:** test with a product variant that has 0 stock.

### 3. Shopify still sells the variant

If a variant has **Continue selling when out of stock** turned on in Shopify, Shopify treats it as available even at 0 stock. The shopper can buy it, so the button doesn’t show.

**Fix:** in Shopify, open the product, then the variant’s inventory settings, and turn off **Continue selling when out of stock** if you want sign-ups instead of orders.

### 4. You turned it on in a different theme

App embeds are switched on per theme. If you turned it on in a draft theme, your live store doesn’t have it.

**Fix:** open **Customize** on the theme marked as your live theme and check **App embeds** there. Do the same again after you switch to a new theme.

### 5. You’re not on a product page

The button is made for product pages. Don’t expect it on collection pages or the home page.

### 6. Your theme’s product form is unusual

The button places itself next to your theme’s buy buttons and uses your theme’s button style. Some heavily customised themes put the buy buttons somewhere the widget doesn’t look for.

**Fix:** open the product in the theme editor. The button always shows there, so you can see whether it finds a place. If it doesn’t appear even in the theme editor, send the theme name through [Request a Feature](/docs/settings/request-a-feature/) with the **Bug** type.
