When recovery emails land in spam, it’s usually about the sender, not the content. The strongest fix is to send from your own domain with SPF, DKIM and DMARC records in place. That needs the Pro plan. Then test where your emails actually land.

Pro plan

Sending from your own domain needs the Pro plan. On the Free plan, **Custom Domain Configuration** under **Settings > Email Settings** is blurred and shows an **Upgrade your plan** button, and your emails go out from RocketCart’s shared address. See [Free and Pro plans](/docs/plans-and-billing/free-and-pro-plans/).

## Is it really spam?

Check first which folder the email is in.

- **Gmail’s Promotions tab** is not spam. Gmail puts shopping and marketing emails there, and they still arrive.
- **The spam or junk folder** is the real problem. Most people never look there.

## Likely causes, most common first

### 1. You send from the shared address

On the Free plan, and on Pro until you set up your domain, every RocketCart email comes from RocketCart’s shared sender address. The sender name is your store name, but the address isn’t yours, and it doesn’t carry your domain’s reputation.

**Fix:** set up your own sending domain. See [Set up a custom sending domain](/docs/sending-domain/set-up-sending-domain/).

### 2. Your domain’s records are incomplete

Gmail, Yahoo and other providers check that the sending domain is authenticated. If your domain is enabled in RocketCart, all three records passed when you turned it on. If you later edited your DNS, a record may have broken.

**Fix:** in **Settings > Email Settings**, click **Verify DNS** and check that all three tabs show **Verified**. Also make sure your domain has only one SPF record. See [Sending domain not verifying](/docs/troubleshooting/sending-domain-not-verifying/).

### 3. Shoppers mark the emails as spam

When shoppers press “Report spam”, providers learn to filter the next emails. This happens more when people don’t remember your store.

**Fix:** add your logo and business address so the email is clearly from your store. See [Use your logo in abandoned cart emails](/docs/settings/logo-and-branding/). Every RocketCart email also has an unsubscribe link, which gives shoppers a better option than the spam button.

### 4. You send other email from the same domain

If you send newsletters from the same domain with another tool, all your email shares one reputation. Complaints about newsletters also hurt your recovery emails.

**Fix:** keep your newsletter list clean, and remove addresses that never open.

## How do I test where my emails land?

Use an inbox placement test, which reports inbox, Promotions or spam for several mailbox providers. To get a real RocketCart email to the test address, start a checkout in your store with that address and leave without paying. The first email arrives after the next hourly import and a delay. Read our guide to using an [email deliverability checker](/blog/email-deliverability-checker-test-if-your-emails-actually-reach-the-inbox/) for how to run one and read the results.
